SUDDENLY Chalou, a 75 ml Eau de Parfum for women, on our shelf in Kampala rather than ordered in.

It is an Eau de Parfum rather than an Eau de Toilette, which is the part that matters day to day. EDP carries roughly 8 to 14 per cent fragrance oil against an EDT's 5 to 9, so it stays with you through a working day instead of thinning out after a few hours. In this heat that is the difference between re-applying at lunch and not thinking about it again.

Use a lighter hand than you would with a weaker scent. At this concentration two sprays carry further than four of something thinner, and over-applying is how a pleasant fragrance becomes a tiring one.

The bottle is weighted square glass with a polished silver atomiser, and it comes in the blush carton shown. It is an accessibly priced fragrance rather than a designer house, and we would rather say so plainly.
